Client Consultation

Knowing the right questions to ask your clients is key to effectively representing them as a real estate agent. Many agents will find that they have difficulty asking the right follow-up questions once their initial inquiries are completed.

Not asking relevant follow-up questions puts the agent at a disadvantage as the feedback from their clients is limited. By knowing which questions to ask, your clients will feel more comfortable with you as their agent.

The Right Questions to Ask Real Estate Clients

The following is a suggested set of potential questions that an agent may find helpful in facilitating the client interview process:

  • What is your true reason for wanting to buy a home?
  • What is your timeline for finding a home?
  • What type of home are you looking to purchase?
  • Are there any specific criteria for your new home? What are you looking for?
  • How much do you plan on paying for your new home?
  • What are your thoughts on the real estate market right now?
  • What can I do to assist you in your search for better housing?

You may have noticed that these questions don’t focus on hard data or numbers. In fact, some of the best questions you will ask your clients as a real estate agent will be related to their motivations for purchasing a home.

Buying a home is a huge decision both emotionally and financially. By asking the right questions, you will learn more about what is motivating a client’s decision to purchase. What’s more important is that by exploring your clients’ motivations for purchasing a home, you can better identify how best to represent them throughout the transaction.

Become the Realtor Who Cares

For example, if your client has had their heart set on purchasing a fixer-upper, it would be in your best interest to recommend an experienced real estate agent. Whereas if your client is looking for a highly upgraded home with all the latest features, you may want to refer them to someone who has specific experience with luxury homes.

Invest the time with your clients to know their true motivations and reasons for looking at a home, and you can help them purchase confidently!
